list of handmade gifts to give for christmas

Christmas is rapidly approaching, and if you haven’t done so yet, it is time to start thinking about what gifts to give to your family and friends. Handmade gifts are a fun way to get the entire family involved in the process. Schedule a gift-making night, and gather the kids around. Put out the supplies, offer some instructions, and everyone start to work. When you are done, you’ll be on your way to being ready for Christmas! Even if you feel you aren’t creative or handy, there are plenty of gifts you can make.

  • Gifts in a Jar – Give the gift of homemade cookies or hearty soup. Stack the ingredients in a large Mason jar for an attractive presentation. Don’t forget to include a card with instructions.
  • Personalized Stationery – Buy some blank cards or paper and stamp or print some personal design onto them.
  • Photo Albums or Picture Books – You can start from scratch here or buy the “bones” and build on it to make it personal.
  • Baked Goods – Who doesn’t like homemade fudge or cookies or banana bread?
  • Coupons for Services – Give neighbors a coupon for free babysitting. Give parents a coupon for a free lawn cut. Give teachers a coupon for a free car wash.
  • Ornaments – out of beads, salt dough, pipe cleaners, pinecones. You are only limited by your imagination on this one.
  • Candles – Melt wax and pour into a clean glass jar while holding the wick. Get creative with fillers and colors.
  • Home Movie – Video your family doing something fun, either planned or spontaneous. Make copies, make labels, and wrap up for a treasured gift.
  • Recipe Book – Collect your family’s favorite recipes and assemble them in an attractive 3-ring binder.
  • Refrigerator Magnets – Use cardstock for the base and attach magazine pictures or photographs. Hot glue a magnet on the back.

What are your homemade gift ideas?

  • I love all these ideas!! So glad to have found a "list" ;O) We're doing LOTS of handmade gifts this year and this will be such a great help! Thanks Jen!!

  • I've made movies before - it was a lot of fun. I think Grandma loves it the most - she's told me that she puts it on every now and again...becuase of soccer, football, homework and everything else, she doesn't get to see the grandkids asmuch as when they were younger.

  • This is a perfect time to post such a list, so I have time to plan and use the ideas.

  • Terrific list!

My sister & I made scrapbook calendars last year for our parents. This year, I am not sure what to make them. They are the only two people on the list who appreciate handmade, everyone else complains. Can you stand it???

I am going to keep this list tho., b/c I really like handmade lists & I might have to hint around to some people. LOL

  • This is a great list:) I really have to get caught up with my "100 days to Christmas". I do want to make some home made gifts!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the "My Husband Rocks" post. You should join in on the fun. You can make your MHR posts in a "list" format:)

  • I love these ideas!!

There is another one that a friend of mine's family does every year. They all write on small pieces of paper a favorite quote -they make enough for everyone to have one, then they read them and exchange them as a family (and extended family) and put them into little jars to sit on the desks at work, or dressers, or someplace where they see it through the year -and then they do it all again the next year.
