list of essential elements in a relationship

Mama is great about being sensitive to the emotional needs and wants of her children, but in the day-to-day caring for those who need a LOT of care, the emotional needs of husbands/partners and fathers can sometimes be neglected. Here are some of the things that you should stay conscious of each and every day to maintain a healthy and loving relationship:

  1. Communication – Have you had a conversation with your man today? A real check-in, where you have learned something about his day.
  2. Meaningful Touches – I am borrowing this phrase from someone, but it has stuck with me. EVERYONE, no matter how tough he may seem, needs the comforting feeling of being touched. It may be a pat on the back, a hand on the leg, maybe a hug.
  3. Trust – Are your actions causing him not to be able to trust you in any manner? Are you being straight with him in every way? Dishonesty with your partner can only come back to harm you AND your relationship.
  4. Money – Yes, you are entitled to spend money for the needs of your family. Yes, you are entitled to some of that money yourself. However, if you struggle with knowing your spending limitations, get help! Money is the number 1 reason for divorce.
  5. Intimacy – Whether it is a deep, personal conversation or a romantic evening after the children are in bed, intimacy is glue that holds a relationship together.
