list of things to do during your child’s soccer practice

While sitting at my child’s first soccer practice, it occurred to me as a determined multitasker that this could be a fantastic opportunity to catch up on a few things between the cheers, the snacks, and the goals.

  • Call your mom – Catching up with Mom and fill her in on the play-by-play action of the game.
  • Update your calendar – Leaf through the pages of your planner or access your calendar on your smartphone to update the dates with events and reminders.
  • Set goals – Set goals for your week and the upcoming month. (e.g. Newsletter out on Monday, or Laundry on Tuesday)
  • Write a letter or card – Got a birthday coming that you want to remember with a card? Have some “Thank You” notes to send?
  • Network – Talk to fellow parents and get to know them.  You never know when your son or daughter might want to have a playdate or a sleepover.  If you know the parents, you’ll be much more likely to make an informed decision.
  • Meal Planning – Bring your Menu Planner page along with a blank Grocery List page attached to a clipboard.  Members to ListPlanIt will find the meal planning and grocery lists that they need in Meal Planning.  Not yet a member?  Join today and either create & manage lists in your account on your tablet or smartphone or print the lists you need and fill in by hand.
  • Journal/Memory recording pages – If your goal is record the highlights and memorable moments of your life and the life of your children but somehow you haven’t been able to keep up, bring along a notebook to start writing your thoughts. Transfer it later to someplace more permanent (members of ListPlanIt.com can find Memory Journal pages in Memories ePlanner).

What do you like to do during your child’s practice or extra-curricular activities?

  • Hmmm...why not try paying attention to what's going on on the field and encouraging the other players? Maybe take notes so that you can help your child to work on the things that the coaches point out...flash cards and video tape are helpful teaching tools.

  • My list is short - "keep toddler off of soccer field and amused while sisters are practicing/playing". :)

  • Hey there!!
Great list! My 2 boys are in soccer back to back so during practice I'm on the field 1.5 hours! Thanks for the suggestions!

  • I don't have to stay and watch Christopher for his 1.5 hour practice ((((YES!!!))) But I do have to "watch" Becca... when I am at the rinks I love to read my magazines and go over my mail order catalogs. This way I can half focus on the magazines and half focus on her! It's nice to have a little mental down-time too!

  • My son doesn't play soccer, but he has Tae Kwon Do twice a week:).

I make friends with the other moms,
read, knit, make grocery lists, organize my coupons, and sometimes I pray:)
